About National Association of REALTORS
National Association of REALTORS is America's largest trade association representing over 1.5 million members involved in all aspects of residential and commercial real estate industries. Founded in 1908 as the National Association of Real Estate Exchanges in Chicago, Illinois, the organization changed its name to The National Association of Real Estate Boards in 1916 and adopted its current name in 1972. NAR is headquartered in Chicago at the REALTOR Building on Michigan Avenue and maintains a significant advocacy office in Washington, D.C. The association organizes major industry events including NAR NXT The REALTOR Experience, REALTORS Legislative Meetings, and various specialized conferences and trade expos. NAR serves as both a professional development organization and powerful advocacy group, widely considered one of the most effective special interest organizations in the United States. The association holds the trademark on the term REALTOR and functions as a self-regulatory organization for real estate brokerage. NAR members include residential and commercial real estate brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, counselors, and others engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry. The organization provides extensive training, education, research services, and advocacy for pro-consumer real estate policies while maintaining a strict Code of Ethics that has been in place since 1913.
